Tesla Motors (an auto transporters dream) has been in the news lately after more talks about their third generation vehicle becoming available in 2017. Previously it was dubbed Tesla Model E, but it has changed to Tesla Model 3. It sounds fitting because it is the third generation of the Tesla automobiles and the pricing should be in the 3’s (as in $30,000 area).
Tesla has been pumping out the Model S for a little bit now and up next is the Tesla Model X. The Tesla Model X is the SUV of the Tesla family and will be available next year.
Lets get back to the Model 3, shall we. Tesla wanted to name the third gen vehicle Model E, but lawsuits from Ford Motor Company required them to make the change. The Model 3 will be represented by III instead of the number 3. If you put the three models together they spell S III X. Elon Musk must have a dirty mind.
The Tesla Model 3 will be a smaller sedan vehicle. It is proposed to drop the material currently used to build the Model S and shell will be used to make the vehicle cheaper to build and the cost savings will be passed on to the total price of the vehicle (in the $30,000 – $39,000 range). Another cost savings will be Tesla having the Gigafactory plant (announcement coming soon) that will produce the batteries used in their vehicles. Each step in the process is making Tesla a competitor with other luxury auto makers such as Mercedes, Lexus and BMW. Elon has proposed the vehicle will get at least 200 miles per charge, which will be nice for such a cheap price point.
One last note that Elon Musk made about Tesla in a recent interview was that Tesla Roadster customers will soon be able to change out their batteries for a new generation battery that will get over 400 miles per charge. Each move Tesla makes is a step forward in the right direction. What announcement will be next?
